The Real Secret to Weight Loss...
Eat 'Til You're Full!!!
Botox Thumbnail BodyTrends You may have seen the commercials, while watching Fox News, Rachel Maddow's new show on MSNBC, or even A&E. It was actually a BodyTrends Client who brought FullBar to our attention, about 3 weeks ago.

Fullbar....Say it!...Know it!...It just may be the added factor you need to lose weight successfully.

FullBar is the brainchild of Dr. Michael A. Snyder of Denver Colorado, who judging from the Fullbar website is long on 'brains', but rather short on 'looks'! You be the judge. Anyway, to his credit, he appears to be the ideal weight for his height, and with no beer gut!

Dr. Snyder is the creator and developer of Fullbar, the latest "craze" in appetite-control and weight-loss. As a bariatric or "Weight-loss" surgeon, who has performed more than 1500 weight-loss surgeries, lap bands, Roux-en-Y, gastroplasty, etc, Dr. Snyder has sought to uncover the real reason people overeat. He has applied the principles that make weight -loss surgery successful to this non-surgical approach.

The upper stomach is distended at the end of a meal, which sends a signal to the brain that you are full. This is called "satiety" . In Bariatric surgery, the principle is to mimic fullness and signal satiety by reducing the volume or capacity of the stomach, leading to the distention. This tricks the brain into thinking you are full. FullBar works in the same manner as weight loss surgery, by filling the stomach to near its brim, with a low-calorie relatively inert substance, that will not contribute to the individuals weight.

You may be thinking that you stomach and your brain are way too smart to be tricked by something like this. Think again, 95% of the study participants using full bar saw an average weight loss of 11.5 lbs in 12 weeks. That's actually not bad. The same study showed this to be equivalent of losing 40% of the participants excess weight in just 3 months,

Here's how it works:

Eat a FullBar, for 2 largest meals of the day. Drink a glass of water. Wait 30 minutes. Then Eat. With the fullness caused by the Fullbar, satiety is achieved very quickly, and very little of the large meal will be desired. In principal, including FullBar will lead to a exclusion of the majority of meal-related calories in a day.

My greatest fear is:
..... Fullbar will taste like Styrofoam...or maybe, wood chips. Not so, says our informant. The taste is actually rated somewhere between "tolerable" and "good". Wood chips and Styrofoam could never rate that high. They come in 4 flavors...Cranberry Almond, Cocoa Chip, Caramel Apple Crisp, and Peanut Butter Crunch.

How much are we talkin'?
The FullBar website offers a 3-month supply of Full Bar for the price of 2 months. It turns out to be about 1.22 per bar and $175 overall. Not Bad.

All though this seems to be one of the simplest and easiest ways that we have heard of for appetite control, we must stress that this is only one part of the successful weight-loss equation. Clearly, combining appetite-control with cardio, and of course, what we do at BodyTrends would be the most powerful and rapid way to effect rapid change in your waistline and body!

To share your experience with FullBar or another appetite control method, contact me at

The BodyTrends Transformation Challenge #2
Howie's Story
Howies Transformation

Meet Howie

Howie is a 36 year-old professional man who was not happy with his body. Like many of us, he is a busy individual, balancing his time between career and kids. TV dinners have become a staple of his existence since his divorce 2 years ago. It has been very diifficult for him to eat right, let alone, exercise. He credits his desire to re-enter the 'dating scene' as a motivation to get back in shape and to look his best. The BodyTrends Spa consultant assessed Howie's situation and developed a customized inch-loss, weight loss, muscle-toning and skin-tightening program using VIP and Accent XL.

Here's what can happen in just 6 weeks, 2-3 VIP sessions per week with once per week Accent XL treatments. All without surgery, pain or injections. It was as simple as lying on a table. What does Howie think about going from a size 40-inch waist to a 36-inch waist? In Howie's own words "Eligible women beware". Watch for Howie's pics on our website overhaul coming soon. You will recognize him at BodyTrends as the sexy guy with flat abs, who has a smile on his face!

Saving Face...Looking Younger Despite the Will of Nature

Saving Face

The Current Issue of the BodyTrends blog deals with the Crossroads of Beauty and Health. We feature current concepts and options for the discerning consumer who wants to appear forever young and beautiful or, at least, to present the best face to the world.

Your face is how you introduce yourself to the world. Through its intricate expressions controlled by dozens of muscles, the face colors and frames your speech, and the world is able to determine many things about you....what your feeling, how comfortable you are, what not to say to you, how healthy you are, and yes, how old you are.

Regrettably, the reactions to situations and stress in our interpersonal relationships register their permanent impression on the face... like the 'brow-furrowing' when your youngest child misbehaves, the 'scowl' that you make when a reckless driver almost sideswipes you, or the 'creases' around your eyes which accompany your widest smile, when your spouse surprises you with flowers on your anniversary. Those reactions repeated thousands of times in our adulthood become the impression of our many experiences. We call them character lines, wrinkles, crows feet, and boy, do we hate them...but they really are lines of privilege that we only receive when we are fortunate to live long enough.
Our environment embattles our face and skin too...whether we deliberately worship the sun at the beach or whether we innocently encounter its exposure as part of our normal day-to-day activities, the sun ages our skin. The sun damages our skin. In winter, it may be the damage that the cold temperature imparts. No matter how you protect yourself, there is really no escaping the punishment of our skin and face by our environment.
Our state-of-health can also be reflected in our face and skin. This can occur in an obvious way in the way that the condition Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus) does, with its characteristic 'malar' or butterfly rash, or the sallow or pre-maturely-aged complexion that some smokers and chronically-ill persons can have. Conversely, the healthiest-appearing skin can also reflect good health. The sensible and nutrient rich diets that are low in fat and cholesterol, with the right vitamin and mineral content necessary to support collagen synthesis, are generally the same factors that help the body appear fit and to be healthy.
Inevitably, the Will of Nature catches up with us. It doesn't mean we shouldn't fight. iAnd, it doesn't mean we cannot win the war.
This "Saving Face" issue will help you make the proper choices for yourself in the battle against the aging face. We will discuss Botox, Permanent Make-up, and Accent XL and help you figure out whether they are right choices for you and your face.
Several clients were able to take advantage of the JUNE "Accent XL-Early Bird" Pre-order Specials. Although those special savings are no longer available, we will feature other opportunities in the future for great savings!
BodyTrends also wishes to thank the 15 people who volunteered to be our Accent XL test clients.

Freedom of Facial Expression!!!
Botox Thumbnail BodyTrends
It's been in the news, in fashion, health, and beauty magazines, and on TV. Your friends may even be talking about how it works. Could this be what you've been looking for...a procedure that can temporarily smooth away those moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows with no surgery and no recovery time? An improvement can be seen within days, lasting for up to 4 months. Almost 3.3 million procedures were performed in 2005 alone, a 16% increase over 2004. Not just models and movie stars, but people from all types of professions have tried it. In fact, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) ranked BOTOX® Cosmetic as the most popular physician-administered aesthetic procedure in the United States for the fourth year in a row (surgical and nonsurgical combined).
Okay. So, how does it work? Let's begin with some history....Researchers discovered in the 1950s that injecting overactive muscles with minute quantities of botulinum toxin type A (isolated from the bacterial species Clostridium botulinum) decreased muscle activity by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a chemical produced by nerve cells which transmit the electrical signal of a nerve that is firing to an adjacent muscle cell that would be contracting, at the neuromuscular (Nerve-to-muscle) junction, thereby rendering the muscle unable to contract for a period 3 to 4 months. Dr. Alan Scott, a San Francisco ophthalmologist, first applied tiny doses of the toxin in a medicinal sense to treat 'crossed eyes' (strabismus) and 'uncontrollable blinking' (blepharospasm), but needed a partner to gain regulatory approval to market his discovery as a drug. Allergan, Inc., a pharmaceutical company that focused on prescription eye therapies and contact lens products, bought the rights to the drug in 1988 and received FDA approval in 1989. Allergan renamed the drug Botox.
Still with me?

Cosmetically desirable effects of Botox were first discovered by Vancouver-based cosmetic surgeons Drs. Alastair and Jean Carruthers. The serendipitous discovery occurred when the husband-and-wife team observed the softening of patients' frown lines following treatment for eye muscle disorders, leading to clinical trials and subsequent FDA approval for cosmetic use in April 2002. So the way Botox works in its cosmetic application is to selectively relax certain muscles of the face, while avoiding other muscles which permit a switch in the balance that the muscle groups have on a facial structure. The imbalances lead to forehead wrinkles, furrows between the eyebrows, and crows' feet at the edges of the eyes. Shifting the imbalance by the Botox injection leads to a fresh, more youthful and, yes, happier appearance...instead of stale, old and mean appearance, which went out of Vogue in the 90's!!
See the following example. These results were achieved using about 150 to 200 Units of Botox.

Younger, fresher Appearance with Botox/BodyTrends

Quite a dramatic change, huh?
Well, what about the Fellas?
Contrary to what you may be seeing in your home, Men Do Care about how they look. Our culture has typically been more forgiving to the age-related changes that men undergo. But tradition is changing. No more is the image of the aging man held in the type of reverence it was given 50 years ago. Right or wrong, in the modern world, men are increasingly being valued and judged by their appearance and, accordingly, there is more-and-more emphasis on men appearing youthful, vigorous, and virile. This phenomenon is reflected in the following trend:
According to the ASAPS, the number of men undergoing cosmetic non-surgical procedures in 2007 was up 91% (almost double) the number from the year 2000. As of last year, Botox injection is the most common cosmetic operation, with 4.6 million procedures in the United States, according to the ASAPS and the American Board for Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Although Botox was not the number #1 cosmetic non-surgical procedure performed on men in 2007, (microdemabrasion was #1), an estimated one out-of-every 7 Botox procedures in the US was performed on men! That's about 650,000 procedures, y'all, if I've done the math correctly.
So, it just isn't Simon Cowell, Matthew McConaghey and David Beckham who are enjoying the benefits of Botox!

MakeUp in the Car-A No, NoIt has been said that a Real Woman can apply Makeup while behind the wheel of an Automobile. In reality, it is only true of a real woman who has a deathwish and car insurance coverage that is better than mine. Could you imagine driving up I-35 or across I-40 behind someone who is not being attentive to the road?
What if you could just wake up with the Beauty of Christie Brinkley? What if you lost out in the eyebrow and eyeliner department unlike Brooke Shields or Amy Winehouse. Well, Okay, maybe that was not the best example. The point is...YOU CAN through permanent makeup! And in the process, I guess save a few lives...
Permanent makeup is a cosmetic technique which employs tattoos (permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eyelining and other permanent enhancing colors to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids. It is also used to produce artificial eyebrows, particularly in people who have lost the eyebrows as a consequence of old age, disease, such as alopecia, chemotherapy, or a genetic disturbance, and to disguise scars and white spots in the skin such as in vitiligo. It is also used to restore or enhance the breast's areola, such as after breast surgery.
Most commonly called permanent cosmetics, other names include dermapigmentation, micropigmentation, and cosmetic tattooing (the latter being most appropriate since permanent makeup is, in fact, tattooing.)
In the United States and other countries, the inks used in permanent makeup and the pigments in these inks are subject to FDA or similar agency regulation as cosmetics and color additives.

Permanent makeup dates back at least to the start of the 20th century, though its nature was often concealed in its early days. The tattooist George Burchett, a major developer of the technique when it become fashionable in the 1930s, described in his memoirs how beauty salons tattooed many women without their knowledge, offering it as a "complexion treatment" ... of injecting vegetable dyes under the top layer of the skin.
Results are generally good, and often mimic topically applied cosmetics, such as in complete alopecia of the eyebrows. The skill and the experience of the tattoo artist are fundamental. Before committing to permanent makeup, particularly if for convenience only, clients should be aware of the potential problems of later removal and complications that may ensue. As with tattooing, permanent makeup may take several sessions and may present some minor discomfort. (Although many technicians will use a topical anesthetic to help reduce any discomfort.) Result appear "harsh" just after application, but become somewhat more natural (as natural as makeup can be) after a few weeks.
Permanent makeup can be useful for women who wish to wear makeup, but cannot apply it easily because they have allergic reactions to makeup materials, have vision deficits, tremors or restrictions of precise movements of the fingers and hands (such as in arthritis, stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, or other conditions). Permanent makeup may also be used to camouflage scarring on the face or other parts of the body.

Diet & Nutrition:
Another Amazing Recipe
Diet and NutritionThe Beauty-Blend Smoothie

When 'good skin' cards were being given out, many of us, myself included, were at the concession stand ordering hot dogs and fried twinkies. Years later, we all remain hostile and resentful at the Angelina's and Boris Kodjoe's of-the-world who were apparently first in line. There is hope for those of us out there who may not have been born the best of skin genetics, but who do want to enjoy healthy, youthful, radiant skin.

Beautiful skin begins with defense. The best defense against the free radical damage of oxidation, whether it occurs by the sun or through the normal aging process, is a diet rich in antioxidant vitamins and minerals (and plenty of water!). Research suggests that certain antioxidants-vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, and vitamin A (in the form of beta carotene rich foods-nourish and protect skin to extend its youthful appearance.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is involved in collagen production and protects cells from free radical damage. Scientific studies found that when lab animals ate vitamin C-fortified food, their skin was better able to fight off oxidative damage. With that said, replenish your skin's vitamin C stores by eating plenty of vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Good sources include peppers (red/green/yellow), oranges, strawberries, lemons, and broccoli. Yes, broccoli.

Vitamin E
Vitamin E helps protect cell membranes and guard against UV radiation damage. Some research suggests that vitamin E may work in combination with vitamin C to provide an extra boost of anti-aging skin protection. However, because recent studies have raised some questions about the safety of vitamin E supplements, these nutrients should come from your diet, not from potent pills. It is recommended you stick with food sources like wheat germ, fortified cereals, nuts and seeds (and the small amount found in a multi-vitamin).

Beta Carotene
Another antioxidant critical for skin health is beta carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the body. Beta carotene/vitamin A is involved in the growth and repair of body tissues, and may protect against sun damage. In extremely high doses, straight vitamin A from supplements can be toxic, so always avoid. However, ample beta carotene from foods like sweet potatos, pumpkins, carrots, mangos and apricots is entirely safe and great for your skin.

Selenium Selenium helps safeguard the skin from sun damage and delays aging by protecting skin quality and elasticity. Dietary selenium has been shown to reduce sun damage, and even to prevent some skin cancers in animals. Be sure to get your selenium from food, though, and not from supplements. Food sources include: Brazil nuts, tuna (canned light in water), crab, wheat germ.
Omega-3 Fats
Healthy fats known as omega-3 fatty acids help maintain cell membranes so that they are effective barriers-allowing water and nutrients in, and keeping toxins out. Omega-3s also seem to be able to protect skin against sun damage. In a study of skin cancer, people who ate diets rich in fish oils and other omega 3 fats had a 29% lower risk of squamous cell cancer than those who got very little omega 3 fats from food. Good food sources include oily fish, sardines, flaxseeds, walnuts.
