What are Spider Veins? Spider Vein Removal OKC Telangiectasias, or more commonly known as spider veins, are small, dilated blood vessels found near the surface of skin or mucous membranes.  Although it is far from a cosmetic "badge of shame" or the proverbial "Scarlet letter", spider veins are a problem for millions of men and women worldwide, and it is estimate that 60% of the population suffers from spider veins or varicose veins.  You don't have to do anything 'wrong" to get them.  40% of women age 40 to 50 have them.  And 72% of women over 60 have them.  Anatomically, they measure between 0.5 and 1 millimeter in diameter, and are found virtually anywhere on the body.  They come to the attention of the medical aesthetics specialist most often when they occur on the face, around the nose and cheek or on the thighs or legs.    Although there are genetic and hereditary causes of telangiectasias, the most common encountered causes are the acquired forms.    Acquired telangiectasias include those caused by venous hypertension (elevated blood pressure in the veins) with associated varicose veins (enlarged veins), pregnancy wherein circulating hormones that weaken vessel walls are produced, and occupations that involved prolonged sitting or standing.  There is also a role of excessive sun exposure and environmental insults that promote their presence. Is there a Cure? Most people think that there is no cure or treatment for spider veins. There is, and it is simple.  Painful injections with sclerotherapy agents to coagulate veins are no longer necessary for spider veins.  New, "light-based" therapies are allowing physicians to successfully treat these "unsightly veins", simply, with minimal discomfort, non-invasively and safely. The treatment of choice these days for spider veins which meet the criteria of ease, comfort, simplicity and safety is the Long-Pulse 1064 Nd:YAG laser.  The wavelength of the device is specific for targeting the "red" color in the Hemoglobin (the oxygen transport molecule Laser Spider Vein removal in OKC of the blood cell).  The surrounding area of skin and soft tissue is not selected by the laser, leaving it intact.  The collision of the hemoglobin with the energy packet of the laser induces an abrupt heat reaction which leads to coagulation of the blood vessel.  The vessel area is usually bleached immediately.  The coagulated fragments of the vessel are then gradually dissolved and resorbed by the body. BodyTrends Client Morgan Woolard, Miss Oklahoma USA makes Oklahoma, America and BodyTrends Proud Who would have thought Morgan Woolard, OSU student, hometown girl from Southside OKC, and Client at BodyTrends would be virtually a household name this week?  We did. We even predicted it in the last newsletter we sent you! You really have to know Morgan Woolard to understand. "She is simply one of the most delightful, charismatic, driven, and beautiful individuals we have ever had the opportunity to work with at BodyTrends", says Stacey Neuhauser, manager of the BodyTrends South location, who oversaw Morgan's bodysculpting treatments.  Obviously, the judges at the Miss USA felt the same as she was awarded the title of 1st Runner-up to Miss USA. And, over the past few days, judging from the response of the public, she is clearly America's favorite.  At last count, two different Facebook pages of supporters who feel that Morgan should have been the judges choice for Miss USA have appeared. Significant controversy still exists surrounding the Miss USA panel's decision to award Miss Michigan USA the title of MIss USA over Morgan.  The seemingly inappropriately controversial and possibly unfair question that Morgan was asked about the new Arizona immigration law, and the fact that Miss Michigan, the winner, had actually 'tripped' in stage during evening gown have led to many questioning the decision of the panel. In addition, photos which appear to be at odds with "decency" clauses in the Miss USA Contract has also been scrutinized, as well as Miss Michigan's appearance in a low-budget film called "Throbbing Justice".  Despite the heartbreaking decision of the judges for Oklahoma fans, Morgan proved her worthiness of the title on Monday in her interviews on "FOX & friends", "America LIVE" with Megyn Kelly, and "Inside Edition". In those interviews,  She indicated that she answered her question with conviction, has no regrets and is looking forward, not backward. Morgan began her preparation at BodyTrends, shortly before winning the Miss Oklahoma USA title in a pageant held late last year in Oklahoma City.  She has spent the last several months preparing at BodyTrends, sometimes up to 2 hours per day" enhancing, fine-tuning, and exaggerating the beautiful lines and curves.  Stacey Neuhauser, who oversaw Morgan's nonsurgical bodysculpture comments that "Morgan was beautiful when she got to us.  She had already been working with a personal trainer. The challenge was to find the way to make her body as close to perfect as possible...and further define it, correct the things that personal training had not... and to take the judges' breath away".  Morgan responded well to BodyTrends VIP Isogei and the Accent XL laser, which helped accentuate and exaggerate the proportions her waist and hips, and to further define her Abs and arms.  The Accent XL Laser, which can melt fat, contour areas of the body, and tighten skin, also gave her the "Banjo-tight" skin.  In a pageant setting this is key.  When walking across the stage, no part of the body should 'jiggle'.  Accent XL insures this wont happen.  The effect of this treatment series gave Morgan nearly "impossible dimensions and amazing muscular definition, bound to capture the judges' attention", according to BodyTrends owner and medical director, Dr. Harvey Jenkins.  And this is exactly what it did on the Miss USA pageant preliminary night and again on May 16th 2010, the night of the televised Miss USA Pageant.  In attendance in Las Vegas cheering Morgan on were Dr. Jenkins, Owner Tashonda Dixon, and Managers, Stacey Neuhauser and Wanda Hutton (North BodyTrends location).  Wanda specifically oversaw the bodysculpting treatment another of the Miss USA Contestant, Bethany Gerber (Miss Kansas USA).   Bethany also did well, as she finished in the Top 15!  The VIP system is the same firming and toning system based on E-stim that was popularized by Jennifer Berry, Lauren Nelson, who used VIP in preparation for Miss America, and most recently by BodyTrends Client Taylor Treat, the current Miss Oklahoma (America). Is "80" the New "40"? TA-65, Life Extension in A Pill  (Re-Printed from So6ix Magazine) We live life in very predictable stages. In our 20s, we become independent. In our 30's we focus on family and career.  By our 50's and 60's, we seem to prepare for retirement, managing our health problems, and sadly, the grave. Future advances in science and medicine will most certainly continue the current trend towards longer and healthier lives.  With the next phase of advances, the way we approach the different stages of life will change.  One day, we will be able to radically extend the human lifespan by simply taking a daily supplement...Life extension  and Immortality in a Pill...A pill that would make "80" the new "40"! Such a pill is already available?  It is called TA-65, and its developers feel this drug may be the key to extending one's life for several years over the normal life expectancy.   They also claim this compound combats the aging process and the diseases and conditions which shorten life. What is TA-65?  TA-65 is a compound extracted from the Astragalus plant  a staple of traditional Chinese herbal medicine.  It is one of a class of agents known as telomerase (pronounced /tuhl-om-ur-ace/) activators, compounds which 'activate' the set of enzymes known as telomerases.   Telomerases act on chromosome endings, or telomeres, to resist the shortening they undergo with successive cell division cycles.  This shortening of the telomeres is a hallmark of aging in cells.   Chromosomes, which are the DNA-containing blueprint which govern all of the cells activities and its replication, must remain undamaged for the cell to function normally and to remain alive. With each cell division, the telomere shortens.  After a number of cell division cycles, the shortening affects cell stability, which have reverberations in the health and viability of the whole organism. The stimulation of telomerase activity to offset for the shortening would thus be expected to overcome the consequences of shortening and allowing the cell to remain youthful, functional, healthy and viable. Is Telomerase Research important.? Absolutely. Telomerases have a role in several genetic conditions (Progeria, premature aging), in other conditions like anemia and in certain types of cancers.  Validation of its importance came in October of last year when The 2009 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Dr.Elizabeth Blackburn and Dr. Carol Grieder for their research which led to the discovery of the telomerase enzyme. The potential for the use TA-65  as an anti-aging agent was a direct result of this telomerase research. Human trials of TA-65, whose subjects were men aged 60 to 85, demonstrated that TA-65 seemed to slow down and reverse definite signs of the aging process.  Signs of advancing age, visual decline and loss of skin elasticity were seen to reverse and improve within one year.  Other improvements seen in the test subjects were in BP, the activity of immune cells, and in sexual function. As expected, the actual lengths of the telomere in the study subjects also increased, rather than decreased, over the year.  No side effects or adverse events from taking Ta-65 were reported. Additional testing of TA-65 is now underway, along with about 60 similar compounds which have recently identified telomerase activators. So, it seems we are at the very beginning of what may be the most important research in human history.   How much does it cost?  For a mere $18,000 a year, you can take the TA-65 supplement.  At present, it can only be obtained through a handful of physicians around the country who have been licensed by the compound's distributor TA Sciences. Dr. Jeffry Life, pictured above, of Las Vegas is one of these physicians, as well as one of the enrolled trial members. Critics of TA-65 point out that this may be the latest and most expensive example of the "same old marketing nonsense dressed up in fancy scientific clothing".  Others feel that TA-65 is the strongest step into the future of anti-aging medicine. Living to 100 may no longer be the exception.  It may be the rule.   And feeling like your 30 or 40, when you are a centenarian, may go right along with it.
